“In addition to the issue of lifting which continues to decrease significantly in the Rokan Block, I also want to ask for a direct explanation from Chevron regarding environmental recovery. There are tens of thousands of Oil Contaminated Land (TTM), especially Riau which is my electoral district. How are Chevron’s concrete steps to solve this, considering the time for the completion of the cooperation contract is getting closer,” said Abdul Wahid.
The same thing was also expressed by, Zulfikar Hamonangan. The politician from the Democratic Party faction also questioned PT Chevron’s responsibility for gas pipeline leaks that caused environmental pollution in Riau. Considering this has been going on for quite a long time, namely since 2010, but until now it has not been completed.
“Hearing the name Chevron, we immediately focused on a company that is quite well known and quite helpful in the Indonesian economy. But I don’t know what programs Chevron has given to our society. Especially the problem in Riau, which is related to environmental pollution problems. I got data, gas pipes leaked which caused environmental pollution. This issue has been going on since 2010, and has become an ongoing issue, without a solution,” said Zulfikar.
The two members of Commission VII DPR RI emphasized that they will continue to concentrate on overseeing environmental pollution problems until they are properly handled. Because this pollution has disturbed the surrounding community, due to the leak of the gas pipe, PT Cvehron was asked to deal with it. Whether it’s stopping the leakage, or addressing the environmental impact.
In response to this, the President Director of PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, Albert Simanjuntak, admitted that he was committed to solving all problems (including environmental recovery) before the transfer of management with Pertamina and SKK Migas.
According to him, TTM recovery is waiting for permission from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) and approval from SKK Migas. His party has submitted a budget and work plan for TTM recovery, but not all of the verified locations have been approved by SKK Migas.(hen)
